Physicians
The purpose of PACE is to offer work-place based assessments in office-based primary care in a centralized location for internationally trained physicians.
Traditionally, family physicians/general practitioners trained outside of Canada had very limited options to gain access to licensure in Canada. The certifying body in Canada, the College of Family Physicians of Canada recognizes training in four countries in the world — Ireland, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States.
The only other pathway to licensure in Canada to practice family medicine/primary care is via a Practice Ready Assessment (PRA). There are several PRA programs in Canada. The current PRA program called the NS PRAP will be winding down in 2025 per a decision of government.
Applying to PACE
The Physician Assessment Centre of Excellence (PACE) wishes to express its appreciation to all physicians intending to apply to its assessment program.
While there will be not be a broad call for applications in 2025, PACE continues to work on reviewing the eligibility of candidates already identified and brought forward by DHW, PACE and OHPR.
Applying in 2026
In 2026 when PACE is fully up and running, there will be a broad call for applications for physicians interested in the PACE assessment program.
When the call for applications opens in 2026, physicians can then apply and are asked to please contact the College at: registration@cpsns.ns.ca.
